Professional mentoring
The Professional Mentoring programme at University of Gloucestershire connects ambitious students with experienced mentors, eager to share their insights and industry expertise. It aims to inspire students and help them explore the range of opportunities available post graduation.
Our Professional Mentorship Programme is built on growth and mutual learning, where mentees gain guidance to navigate their career paths, and mentors find fulfilment in shaping the futures of tomorrow’s professionals.
How does it work?
Once registered, all mentors and mentees will attend a brief online training session and receive a comprehensive handbook. This contains useful conversation starters to help participants feel at ease and prepared for their mentoring journey.
Participants can choose to hold their mentoring sessions online, or face-to-face, providing flexibility to suit different needs. Over the course of 12 weeks, 4-6 mentoring sessions are expected to take place, offering ample opportunities for meaningful connection and growth.

The Professional Mentoring Programme has truly transformed the confidence and clarity of its participants.
Before joining, only 46% of students felt confident in identifying and presenting their skills and strengths. After completing the programme, this figure soared to an impressive 86%.
Similarly, only 31% of students initially felt clear about the next steps in their career plan. After participating, this number dramatically increased to 82%.
These results highlight the programme’s incredible impact in empowering students to take charge of their futures with confidence and direction.
Joining the programme
Getting started with the mentoring programme is simple. Just follow these easy steps to begin your journey:
- Complete a ‘Mentor/Mentee registration form’ to begin the process
- Sign a ‘Mentor/Mentee Agreement form’ to establish your commitment
- Attend a short online training session to prepare for the programme
- Be matched and introduced to your mentor via email
- Schedule your first meeting with your mentor.
After your initial meeting, you will continue with 4–6 sessions over a 12-week period, working closely with your mentor to gain valuable insights and guidance.
