Dr Lynsay Cooper

Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science

As a biomedical scientist, I integrate real patient cases and laboratory diagnostics into the teaching environment. I enjoy engaging students in critical problem-solving and empower them to investigate complex clinical questions.

Biography

As a Lecturer in Biomedical Science, I teach modules across the Biomedical Science course, Animal Biology, and Biology Undergraduate programs.

My current research interests mainly focus on the action of glycosaminoglycans and their analogues in disease systems, and the potential of these molecules to be developed into therapeutics.

Lynsay leads and teaches on a range of modules on Undergraduate programmes delivered in Biosciences. Her main areas of teaching and module leadership include: introduction to biomedical science, human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, haematology, neuroscience, internship, work placement (year long), and professional practice in biomedical science (NHS placement). Lynsay also leads on student research project proposals and supervision at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

Research

  • Lynsay’s PhD work focused on identifying glycosaminoglycan functional analogues with anti-Alzheimer’s action through the inhibition of BACE1, a target anti-amyloid enzyme.
