Dr Emma Tickle

Lecturer in Psychology

I am passionate about teaching psychology in higher education. My research interests concern mental health and lived experience.

Biography

I joined the university in November 2023 following working as an associate lecturer for a year. As a lecturer, I have taught across the BPS core curriculum, as well as engaging with my more specialist area of mental health. I teach across the course here at the university, particularly in more clinical and health related areas. Before becoming a lecturer, I finished my PhD on the co-occurrence of borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. I continue to engage with research on the lived experience of health and mental health.

Teaching & Research

Teaching

I am a passionate educator, with an initial degree in Education Studies as well as Psychology. My approach to teaching tends to be interactive and discursive. Currently, I teach on the Clinical and Health Psychology degree and across the BSc Psychology.

Research

My research is concerned with the lived experience of health and mental health, although I also have experience as a mixed methods researcher drawing on both quantitative and qualitative techniques. My PhD concerned the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder within individuals with bipolar disorder.
