The University Executive Committee is responsible for all matters associated with the development and management of the university.

Council is the university’s governing body and is responsible for the educational character and mission of the university, the approval of annual estimates of income and expenditure, the appointment of senior staff, and the Articles of Association (revised May 2021) that set out the formal governance arrangements of the university.
Council currently comprises of 20 members: 14 external members and six members from the university community, including the Vice-Chancellor, members of academic and support staff and Academic Board, and two officers of the Students’ Union.
