Improve your skills and engage in fun activities within your subject group, or learn something new. These societies organise guest speakers, offer practical skills development and arrange social events for anyone interested in taking part.

Here are just some of the clubs and societies on offer to our students – check out the SU website for the full list, ways to join and how to start your own.

Students talking
  • Technical Computing: “We organise talks, take part in events and get hands-on experience with a variety of powerful security and forensic tools. Don’t worry about lack of experience! Our society is full of passionate members who love to teach, inspire and learn from each other. We aim to get involved in STEM and are looking to help others.

The society also gets involved in Capture the Flag (CTF) Hackathon. This is an event where teams compete against each other against the clock to find solutions to different challenges. Events like this bring together people with a wide variety of different computing skills, are great fun and are an opportunity to learn something new and win some amazing prizes.”
  • Psychology: “We want to make psychology open to everyone, so please join if you have an interest in people or psychology. As a member, you’ll have free access to all ice-breaker events, employability events and professional talks. We plan to hold a wide variety of events including fundraising/awareness days, group discussions, webinars and employability events to add to your CV.”
Sports massage
  • Physiotherapy: “Our standard membership will include access to guest lectures, practical skills workshops, workgroups and to top it all off, team socials. This is a great way to get involved in physiotherapy and further your studies.”
  • Social Work & Social Care: “The society was founded in hopes of creating a tighter community between students on Social Work and Social Care related courses at all levels. Through on- and off-campus socials and get-togethers, we want to achieve this sense of community. Get involved in events with guest speakers, group study and more casual ones like bring ‘n’ share lunch, casual pub nights and other icebreakers.”
