Natural and Social Sciences: Placements

Our students complete over 4,000 placements each year. With opportunities locally and globally, you’ll have plenty of hands-on experience to stand out after graduating.

All placements are subject to COVID-19 restrictions and the below are examples of past placement opportunities. There may be additional costs and the destinations are subject to change – please take a look at the course pages for more information.

  • Gain hands-on experiences with animals in zoos, veterinary practices and schools.
  • Recent geography placements included teaching in a secondary school, research for a charity which provides agroecology support for Kenyan communities, and data analysis for an energy firm on options for new wind turbine locations.
  • We have excellent links with Gloucestershire Constabulary, victim support services and Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse for psychology and sociology students.

“I’ve always been interested in the Criminal Justice System and forensic psychology helps me understand why some individuals commit offences. Alongside my studies, I volunteer with the probation service, and in a prison where I help facilitate group workshops with offenders.”

“I did an internship at an equine veterinary laboratory – by the end of it, the vets didn’t realise I was actually on work experience – they thought I was an employee! I wrote up my results from the internship into a scientific paper which I’m now working to publish in a veterinary journal.”
