Business, Marketing and Law
Last updated: 15 May 2024
Work with real-life businesses, network with professionals, expand your CV and get involved in social events. Some of these societies have a track record of offering brilliant work experience opportunities with local businesses and offering (business) trips.
The Gloucestershire School is also home to one of Gloucestershire’s handful of Growth Hubs, which allows students and societies to engage with developing businesses, as well as offer advice on starting their own business.
Here are just some of the clubs and societies on offer to our students – check out the SU website for the full list, ways to join and how to start your own.
- Marketing Society: “We work with local businesses to help them with their marketing problems and/or opportunities. This allows us to give our members first-hand experience of marketing, branding, digital advertising, SEO and lots more! Working on these projects sometimes calls for visiting some businesses, examples of which included Dunkerton’s Cider Brewery, in the past. So be prepared to have the opportunity for some product testing. We host fun sober and boozy socials and are open to all students, no matter your experience level.”
- Investment Society: “A community where students can discuss and learn about money, wealth, financial freedom, and business. As students we know that finances are an important aspect of university life (and beyond), so we spend time talking about things that affect most of us, such as credit cards, overdrafts, and interest.
We will also go a step further and talk about investing, specifically in real estate and the stock market, host guest speakers that will talk about their professional lives for people that are interested in a career in finance/business. Our aim is to also host multiple investing competitions where the top 3 students will receive prizes.” - MBA Society: “The MBA society enables networking opportunities, professional development, including industry-specific speakers and seminars. We aim to host events and activities with the primary goal of getting to know our classmates, alumni and peers outside of the university.
We understand that each student’s interests, goals, background and time vary widely but we create opportunities that are advantageous for all. Feel welcome to join us and find the plethora of possibilities within the UoG MBA Society!” - Law Society: “The Law Society is open to all students of the university with an interest in law or the desire to be able to add legal skills and experiences to your CVs. Our society is tailored to enhancing confidence, knowledge, and awareness of the legal world, whilst providing opportunities to make or extend connections with businesses, firms and people within the profession. In addition to academic experiences and benefits, we aim to incorporate social aspects into our society, varying from sober socials to nights out.”
