Chase the cheese

Featured in the Netflix series We Are the Champions, the Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an annual event held near Gloucester. Participants race down the 200-yard-long hill after a nine-pound round of Double Gloucester cheese – another of Gloucestershire’s finest exports.

We’re pretty sure we’re the only county who can boast this?

The event has been a staple of Gloucestershire’s spring-time calendar since 1826. And the tradition continues to grow in popularity every year.

Racers flock from all over the world. From the US, to Australia and Japan. With one of the most recent wins coming from Canadian, Mark Kitt.

In 2019, an impressive all-time record was set by Flo Early, who now boasts a total of four wins in the Women’s Race and is the only women ever to hold this accolade.
