You can find the application process on our Applying for halls of residence page.
Yes, we will guarantee you a place in university or partner-managed halls of residence if you accept a place at UoG and apply for accommodation 1 July 2025. Find out more on our Applying for halls of residence page.
Applicants will need a Conditional or Unconditional Firm Offer with the University to complete the halls of residence application process.
We would suggest waiting 24 hours after accepting your offer before applying for accommodation to allow UCAS to update our system.
Unfortunately not. You will need a Firm offer (conditional or unconditional) to apply for halls of residence. However, we may still have halls rooms available in August if your university offer becomes firm so please contact us then.
Yes, when applying, please state the name of the person(s) you would like to live with in the special details area during the halls application process. Please note you will need add each other’s names on your individual applications for us to be able to consider this request. As rooms are allocated on application date, you would also need to apply around the same date for us to be able to allocate you together.
We will start sending out room offers to applicants via email from March for the next academic year. Room offers will then be sent every three weeks.
We will send your room offer via email. If you wish to accept that offer you will need follow the instructions and log into your Halls Portal. From there you need to accept the room, pay a £200 advance rent payment, and set up a direct debit within 7 days of receiving the room offer.
Rooms in halls of residence range in price from £158 to £253 per week (2025/26 figures) depending on which type of room, townhouse or flat you choose. Regardless of which type of room you choose, your rent will include all utility bills with no caps (heating, water, and electricity), internet and basic contents insurance. Halls contracts are usually 40 weeks long, which means you only pay for the academic year.

Rent is paid in three equal instalments via direct debit. This is to coincide with when students receive their loans in October, January and May.
This will likely be an account error so contact [email protected] and the team will be able to assist you.
Each halls bedroom includes a bed, wardrobe, storage, chair, desk, and fast internet access. Shared kitchens include a microwave, cooker, toaster, kettle, refrigerator and freezer, and there are laundry facilities available at each site.
Most of our halls rooms include an ensuite bathroom featuring a sink, shower, and toilet. We also offer a small selection of rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Studio rooms at Pittville Student Village feature their own private kitchens.
Some halls include additional facilities such as sports pitches, gyms, studios, quiet study areas, faith spaces, bars, refectories, and cycle storage.
Yes, we are happy to accept applications from students who live locally and would like to experience life in halls. Please note however that once a halls contract has started you will be contracted for year – there are no early releases.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer single-gender flats in our halls of residence. You may want to consider applying for an ensuite room or a studio room for additional privacy.
Unfortunately, we do not have an option to apply for quieter halls. However, we have specific rules and regulations regarding excessive noise, particularly after 11pm. We also have 24-hour security available where you can report any noise issues to and they will respond accordingly.
Please email [email protected] as soon as possible. If you notify us 14 days before your contract start date, we will end the contract and the £200 advance rent payment fee will be returned to you.
After this date (ie, within two weeks before the contract start date), if notice is received, the University will return the £200 advance rent payment, minus any deductions incurred from late notification, including but not limited to the reasonable costs of additional marketing of the room and the licence is ended. If you notify us on or after your contract start date you will be liable for rent for the year unless a suitable replacement student is found.
Generally, you will only be able to apply for halls that are based in your town/city. This is to ensure we have enough halls of residence accommodation to ensure you can live close to where you study. Therefore, when applying for halls of residence, you will only see the halls options related to your campus of study. You can email [email protected] if you have specific circumstances that require this.
We allocate rooms the date order of receiving applications so the earlier you apply, the better chance you will have of receiving your desired accommodation. If you have not received the option(s) you wanted, it is because this room type is already allocated. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change rooms at this stage.
Halls transfers during term time: we do run a room transfer scheme if you live in a university-managed halls of residence which opens 3 weeks after your contract start date.
Once open, you can complete a transfer form, select your desired halls within your Halls Portal. Once completed, our Halls Allocation Team will contact you to confirm if a room becomes available in this halls/room type. Please note that there is a £50 administration fee for all halls transfers.
We will end your halls of residence contract if you withdraw or defer from university. Once the withdrawal/deferral is complete, the student would have up to 2 weeks to vacate halls of residence.
The student would be charged rent up to the date you complete the withdrawal process and fully vacate (whichever is later.) They would also be charged a 4-week cancellation fee from that date.

Yes, students can live in halls for each of your academic years. Information regarding returning to halls for the next academic year will be sent to current halls students each November. Generally, you would be allocated in a different room for the next academic as we try to allocate returning students in the same areas.
Unfortunately, it is a university rule that all halls students are not allowed a motor vehicle anywhere in Cheltenham and Gloucester. We must be strict regarding this as it is a condition agreed with the council when building halls and external evidence must be on file for any exceptions.
The main exception is for students with disabilities or a medical condition. In these cases, permission can only be considered once details are provided in writing by a medical professional. The letter must specifically mention the need for a car due to this medical condition. This evidence should be emailed to Stephen Burrows, Accommodation Services Manager: [email protected]. Once provided, Stephen will review this evidence. If confirmed, a link to purchase the parking permit will be provided.
Another reason permission is granted is if a student is on temporary university placement. This process involves course staff notifying Stephen Burrows, Accommodation Services Manager, of the student with temporary parking permission. In these cases, permission is given for the period of placement only.
There is also an exception for students on the below courses who have year-long placements and are automatically given permission.
PGCE, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Healthcare Science, Nursing, Operating Department Practice, and Paramedic Science.
Unless a student meets one of the above requirements, it would not be possible to grant permission.
All university-managed halls rooms come with basic contents insurance through Endsleigh. More details are sent to incoming halls students each summer. Find out more about Howden insurance cover.
