Back to stories listingNow running her own online pick and mix shop and corporate gifts business, Lisa Organ is enjoying the sweet taste of success as an entrepreneur. Lisa joined the university in 2016 to study Business Management (Enterprise) and spent a placement year as a project manager in the in IT sector as well as setting up her own business selling sweet treats.
After undertaking part in graduate schemes for three years, she’s taken the plunge and set up Lisa’s Sweet Treats Limited. During her time at the University of Gloucestershire she embraced a wide range of opportunities, from taking part in social enterprise, to course representative, and these have all contributed to Lisa forging her own career.
“I could see that the lecturers cared about the students individually and got to know each student on a personal basis. The university was very focused on the real world after university and making sure that you were set up in the best possible way for the world of work once graduating,” said Lisa.
“The focus throughout the business courses is making sure that you have the skills for the workplace including presentation skills and report writing.
“I also had the opportunity to explore lots of different career paths, with very frequent guest speakers from alumni and local businesses. And I was able to expand my network of connections and meet so many amazing business leaders.”
Lisa’s Sweet Treats started when she created a sweet cart for her wedding in 2018, and once the wedding planning was over she decided to quit her role as a project manager and set up her own business the following year.
Today the company, based in Warwickshire, features a wide range of sweet offerings including corporate gifts, sweet hampers, corporate gifts and letterbox sweets. And for anyone of thinking of going to university, or currently studying, she believes it’s important to keep an open mind.
“My key advice for all UoG students is make the most of the opportunities provided and brilliant resources that are provided. You never know when something will help you in the future.”
