Uchechukwu Uba is currently studying MSc Applied Ecology full time at UoG. Read what Uchechukwu has to say about the course.
What is your background and what brought you to study Applied Ecology at UoG?
I am from Nigeria where I majored in Geography and Environmental Management. I have three degrees in this field of study but, prior to commencing this course at University of Gloucestershire, I had a little theoretical knowledge of ecology. I was keen to broaden my horizon in the practical aspects; this prompted me to embark on this journey and also a passion to solve ecological problems.
How did you find the transition into Master’s-level study in the UK?
Settling down in a new environment and new system of learning was quite challenging but following the guidance of my course leader, Prof. Anne Goodenough and personal tutor Dr Mark O’Connell, the transition process was made easy as I got answers to all my curious questions.
What is your favourite memory of the course?
My favourite memory of the course is the interactive nature of the lectures, as well as exposure to practical aspects of the course on field visits.
What’s next?
Firstly, I have been able to broaden my knowledge horizon in this field of study. My future intent is to acquire a job in the ecological sector and build a successful career as well as help to create solutions to environmental problems.
How would you sum up your experience?
It has been an exciting and rewarding experience; I enjoyed every bit of it.
