“My research developed out of my master’s dissertation, studies peak events following Megxit – the exit of Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry from the royal family as senior royals – to understand the relationship between British media reports and audience reactions to such stories. It’s important to me to widen the scope of my MA research and add to the perspectives of Black authors in academia in Britain.
University of Gloucestershire topped my application list because tuition was reasonably priced and being an African student, I qualified for the International Grant Award. But more importantly, I didn’t want an unpleasant PhD experience. So, when my primary supervisor and Postgraduate Research Lead, Jonathan Cable developed an unrivalled interest in my research, I was keenly interested in what the university had to offer.
Capturing the evolution of my research and having to present it quite simply has been interesting to me. There is always a new event applicable to Megxit that demands critical thinking, and much as that excites me, it can be daunting. Overall, I’m glad to have a great team of supervisors that makes the process enjoyable.”
