Emilie graduated from the Music Business (MMM) course in 2019 and currently works as a marketing associate for Blokur, a music and tech start-up in London. During her time at Uni, Emilie explored various paths within the music industry. She co-founded Ghazt Management/Promotions through which she hosted live events and helped promote local talent in the Gloucestershire area and later founded Totem Guide Management, a company that acts as a helpline for artists. To this day, she still works with artists as an advisor/consultant, including international artists in Japan and Panama.
It wasn’t until she learnt about blockchain and other technologies which have the potential to revolutionise the music industry, that she felt she found her true calling. Emilie first heard about Blokur during a Music Cultures and Economies lecture and reached out to them to ask for a week of work experience with the company. She was invited to do so and having wished the week wouldn’t come to an end, later reached out again to Blokur after University to apply for an internship, as she felt she wanted to see where the amazing projects would lead to.
Blokur works with music publishers and songwriters to help them get paid what they should, when they should, through better rights data, with an overall mission to fulfil the potential of the internet for the creator.
“During my first week at Blokur, they were wrapping up their project with Massive Attack in which Blokur was tracking the stems of songs in a remix app to ensure the correct rightsholders would be credited. This was just one of the many exciting projects, so as you can imagine I really didn’t want to leave after just one week. It was clear that Blokur had huge potential in changing the music industry for the better, as they are working to rectify the overall issue associated with metadata. I feel very lucky to now be a permanent part of that mission.”
Emilie’s role includes planning long-term and short-term marketing strategies, market and statistical analysis, social media management, client outreach and much more.
