International Ecolinguistics Association
The International Ecolinguistics Association (IEA) is a network of 1,200 researchers from around the world who share ideas, opinions and articles about environmental communication.
Ecolinguistics explores how language can separate us from nature, but also how nature writing and ecopoetry can help us reconnect. The IEA has a free online course which has been taken by more than 3,500 participants, a journal, book series, and social media groups.
It is hosted by the English Literature course at University of Gloucestershire, and students have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of ways, from internships to using the resources and even becoming convenors.

How does it work?
Students from the English Literature course have made use of the extensive range of resources available from the IEA, taken the free online course, undertaken internships to develop materials, and have held convenor positions including membership officer, communications officer, assistant editor, and book review editor.
After graduating from the Literature course, some students have gone on to take Master’s courses, PhDs and academic research positions in ecolinguistics.
