VanArts

We first went to Vancouver in 2015 after Trudie Ballantyne (course leader of Photography: Editorial and Advertising BA) met with the president of Vancouver Institute of Media Arts the previous summer. Having made the suggestion of a collaborative project, the long-lasting collaborative friendship was launched. We have travelled to Vancouver for five years, with an interruption of two years due to Covid. We go again in May 2025.
Not only is this an amazing course trip, it is an opportunity to work on a live brief with fellow creatives and form solid friendships and build career aspirations.
Four alumni of the Photography: Editorial and Advertising course now live and work in Vancouver, having fallen in love with the place and all the amazing career opportunities it offers.
“Our institute has had the great pleasure of receiving Trudie and a sizeable group of photography students from UoG on five occasions starting in 2015. Trudie is a natural leader who inspired and directed our students to work in collaborative teams with fellow UoG students on real-world projects with client businesses in Vancouver; Lululemon, Vancity Credit Union and Mountain Equipment Company.
“There was a buzz of creativity and friendship throughout the week, and I witnessed the final screening of images to our client companies for all four collaborations. Trudie was the inspiration to make this happen, and had great respect and appreciation from all the students, faculty and client companies. I look forward to more collaborative projects with Trudie and UoG students.”
Alan Phillips, President, Vancouver Institute of Media Arts
