CheltZero

Cheltenham Borough Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and subsequently established a pathway to become a net zero council and borough by 2030: the Cheltenham Zero initiative.

The MDes Graphic Design students work collaboratively as a design studio for the project, undertaking a live brief addressing an issue the CheltZero team is working on, such as carbon reduction through tree planting, and an awareness campaign about water pollution. 

The studio delivers research, strategy and design deliverables that the CheltZero project can use. This has included their original logo (see below) and visual identity concepts in 2020, which was shown at London Design Festival’s Green Grads exhibition.

Their campaign for active travel was included in the Sustainable Travel showcase, and they have developed innovation concepts to inspire a future vision of Cheltenham’s 2030 goals.
