Through the use of cell dyes and high-powered microscopes, we will take a look at this otherwise hidden world to discover the distinct shapes and structures of some key bacterial species.

Take a live tour around a crime scene. You’ll piece together the sequence of events and develop a case hypothesis by examining clues that have been left behind in our amazing crime house.

Poverty games – exploring systemic inequalities and structural discrimination in society
Dig into the problems of poverty, social class, income inequality, and the challenges of ‘equality of opportunity’ as well as highlight the sociological concepts of direct institutional discrimination. Through simulation and creative activities with LEGO as a reflection tool and a game of Monopoly with a twist, we will invite you to explore ideas and develop deeper insights into the social sciences phenomenon discussed.

Wildlife crime: mammalian detectives
Mammalian hair is used as indirect evidence in different contexts, including wildlife crime. In this practical session, you’ll prepare your own slides with ‘mystery’ hair samples to study and identify under the microscope. Shrew or Squirrel? Rodent or Rabbit? Ferret or Fox? Harness your mammalian detective skills to find out.

Exploring Europe’s largest refugee situation since World War II, you’ll be introduced to the issue of refugee flows in 21st century Europe and work together to propose solutions.
While offer holders take part in interactive sessions, guests can attend this Q&A session to find out more about UoG and ask questions about tuition fees and loans, accommodation options and admissions.

The biology of smell: the role of pheromones
Humans communicate with speech, but for many animals it is smell not sound that gets the message through. Through our ‘smells pack’, you’ll be armed with oddly-familiar everyday aromas to explore the fascinating world of pheromones, from lost ants to angry bees.

Designing a rehabilitative prison
Examine rehabilitation in the context of dealing with offending behaviour, how it works in the prison setting, and the problems and challenges of this. You will design a prison in groups, adding in spaces, activities and resources that you think will help rehabilitate offenders.

Taking a climate science journey through space and time, you’ll investigate what nature should be doing now if humans were not around and, in turn, uncover what our planet may have in store for us.

In this team-based activity you’ll explore the drama and complexities around seeking to develop interagency cooperation in order to a tackle a complex global challenge.
Off-campus accommodation will be available to view at Pittville Student Village, a hub of activity with 800 student rooms, social spaces, gym, studio and study suite which is just a short walk or drive from Francis Close Hall. A free bus service will be running from FCH to Pittville Student Village every 15 minutes, or you can make your own way there. Find it on Albert Road, Cheltenham, GL52 3JG.
By attending an offer holder day, you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade your conditional offer to make it unconditional. To accept your offer, head to the UCAS Hub and make your firm and insurance choices.
