What’s an unconditional offer?
An unconditional offer provides a guaranteed place to study on the course you applied for at University of Gloucestershire. It’s not dependent upon results. The benefit of having an unconditional offer is that you can plan your next steps with certainty. However, we’d still encourage you to put every effort in to achieve good grades in your final results.
If you haven’t been successful in securing an unconditional offer following your interview, nothing changes. You’ll still hold your original, results-dependent conditional offer.
What to expect from your interview
Your interview will be with an academic from the subject area your course is in. It should last no longer than 20 minutes. It’s a chance for lecturers to find out more about you, your passion for studying your chosen course and your future career aspirations.
Your interview is designed to be informal and relaxed, providing you with the opportunity to get a better feel for the course and to get to know more about us.
How to prepare
You know yourself and your motivations for studying your chosen course best – this is your chance to tell a lecturer more about them. Have a read through your personal statement and remind yourself of your achievements to date. Read more tips on how to prepare.
What happens after the interview?
You’ll be emailed shortly afterwards with a decision on whether your offer will be upgraded to unconditional. You can then log in to UCAS hub to firmly accept your offer. You can also do this if your offer remains conditional.

The opportunity to upgrade your offer is available for all courses except Primary Education and all health and social care programmes.

We know that applicants are far more than their application form and personal statement. By having the opportunity to meet academics and express your reasons for applying and what you can offer, a clearer picture of your ability and aspirations can be gained.

There is no caveat attached to the offer and you can accept it or decline it. Alternatively, you can choose UoG as your insurance offer. The decision on which university and course to accept is down to you and only you will know the ‘right’ place. Our unconditional upgrade offer is in place to show our commitment to you and to get a greater understanding of your abilities.

Yes, this unconditional offer can be deferred, but please do not make the decision to defer until later on in the summer if you’re not 100% sure. Get your finance and any accommodation in place (just in case you change your mind) and you can always defer nearer to the start of the programme if you feel this is the right decision for you.

This can be considered by the academic interviewer if requested. If the course is in the same subject area we may be able to do this. However, if it was in a different area you may require an additional interview.

We would strongly encourage you to put every effort into achieving good grades in your current studies as this will help your transition to our programmes. We hope this offer allows you to plan your next steps with certainty.

Upgrades to an unconditional offer are given on a case-by-case basis depending on the outcome of your interview. Feedback will be given to all applicants who go through the interview process. The academic who interviews will decide on your readiness for the programme. If we are unable to upgrade your offer, your conditional offer will still stand (grades dependent).

Your upgraded offer is specific to the course you have received an offer for, as we’ve taken your predicted grades into consideration when making the upgrade offer.

Unfortunately, due to immigration compliance, we are unable to consider international applicants who require a CAS for the upgrade scheme.
Top TIPS
Preparing for online interview
- Think about where you’re going to do your interview. How is the lighting? What’s your backdrop like?
- What are you wearing? You want to feel comfortable but avoid jazzy checks, stripes and patterns which can appear distorted on screen.
- Do a test run with your equipment and how to join the meeting – check your camera and the sound.
- Make sure your battery is fully charged or your power supply is connected.
- We’re more than happy for you to have a teacher or parent in the room with you while you’re interviewing.
- Remember, if you do have technical issues/connection problems don’t panic – these things happen all the time and it won’t count against you.

Preparing and Researching for Interview
- Our first tip is to start getting your thoughts together now – think about your interests and why you’re passionate about this subject and the industry.
- Try to remember we’re on your side and we won’t be asking you any trick questions – we want you to be excited and ace this interview! Good luck!
- We’d like to hear about who inspires you and also about your future plans and ambitions.
- Ensure you’re as prepared as you can be – read through your personal statement so that you feel comfortable to talk about any of the areas you’ve mentioned.
- Do your research, think about why you want to study that course and your passions/influences and any career aspirations you may have.
- Think of it as a great chance to meet the lecturers that you’d likely be taught by and make sure you’ve got a few questions prepared for them.
- Look at the course modules on glos.ac.uk to familiarise yourself with the kind of topics you’ll be studying at UoG and why they appeal.
- Remember – this is the time to talk about yourself and how amazing you are – enjoy it!
