Why choose UoG?

Develop hands-on expertise across studio production, live sound, post-production, game audio, and more. Become technically skilled, creatively ambitious, and ready for wherever the industry takes you.

This is a course for the contemporary sound and music producer – creative, curious, and ready to work across genres, technologies and platforms

You’ll learn by doing. From day one, you’ll be in the studio, on location, and in performance spaces – recording, mixing, designing and producing audio for a range of real-world contexts.

The course covers a wide spectrum: studio production, live sound, post-production, sound for film and TV, game audio, spatial audio and immersive formats like Dolby Atmos. You’ll build a portfolio that reflects the full range of today’s audio industry.

You’ll work on live briefs, collaborate with filmmakers, visual artists, game designers and performers, and gain real experience through placements and public-facing projects.

You’ll balance analogue workflows with contemporary digital tools – and develop a practice that’s technically skilled, culturally informed and industry-ready

Class sizes are focused to the need of the individual. You’ll be supported in and out of lectures with extensive equipment and resources and there is a high ratio of studio time to students.

Studying in Cheltenham offers a range of opportunities and you’ll be actively engaged in the local cultural sector. Many of our students are employed in the creative economy while they study.

You’ll learn through a dynamic blend of lectures, seminars, workshops and practical sessions, all led by experienced producers, engineers and researchers. The course is structured around project-based modules, with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and collaborative work

Contact time is high, with regular 1:1 tutorials and small-group teaching providing close support throughout. Independent study and creative experimentation are key to the course ethos, helping you develop confidence, autonomy and a distinctive personal voice

You’ll have access to industry-standard studios and facilities. Software and hardware workflows are aligned with professional practices, preparing you for employment or freelance work across sectors.

Assessment is 100% coursework-based with a mixture of self-directed work and time-based assessments that reflect real world working dynamics.

You’ll also benefit from regular guest lectures and masterclasses with artists, producers, sound designers and industry professionals, offering insight, inspiration and networking opportunities.

Graduates of this course go on to diverse and rewarding careers across the creative industries – from music production and sound design to audio post-production, live events, gaming and immersive media.

You’ll develop a professional portfolio throughout the course, gaining real-world experience through live briefs, placements, and cross-disciplinary collaborations. From producing music for artists, to designing sound for film, TV, games or XR environments, you’ll graduate with the technical expertise, creative vision and adaptability the industry demands

Career pathways include studio production, sound for screen, audio post, live sound engineering, sound design, game audio, spatial and immersive audio, and roles in broadcast, media and digital arts. Many graduates also launch freelance careers, start production companies, or pursue post graduate study in highly specialised areas.

Career-readiness is built into the course. You’ll gain experience with industry-standard tools like Pro Tools, Ableton, Dolby Atmos and Unreal Engine, while you develop key professional skills such as project management, collaboration and critical reflection.

Graduate outcomes are above sector average with alumni working in event production, post-production, recording studios, broadcasters, game studios, education, and creative companies across the UK.
